The National Arts Club’s permanent collection has greatly expanded opportunities to steward a unique holding of American masterworks. The Permanent Collection survey show held through- out our clubhouse galleries last year, and most recently the exhibition “Highlights from the NAC Contemporary Collection” curated by Robert Yahner, successfully showcased the aesthetic diversity and historical significance of these works. Notable too are two traveling museum exhibitions containing selections from our permanent collection---loans which expand the public’s awareness of our holdings and thereby support our mission “... to educate the American people in the fine arts.”
Similarly, our own exhibitions aim to educate viewers by foregrounding a timely intent or stylistic concern that moves through our collection and extends into the greater context of American Art. Our December exhibition titled “The Triumph of Winter” explores the subgenre of winter landscape painting, of which our collection has notable examples - Frederick Lamb, Cullen Yates, and M. Caldwell among others. These works will be exhibited along with more contemporary works by artists Ben Fenske, Frank Mason, David Stier, David Grossmann, and Nancy Whorf.
